JONESBORO, AR (astateredwolves.com) – The 2015 regular season for the Arkansas State women’s soccer team will officially begin Friday, Aug. 21 when the Red Wolves travel to Ellisville, Miss., to take on Southern Miss at Bobcat Soccer Field on the campus of Jones County Junior College.

A-State will begin its home slate Sunday, Aug. 23 with an in-state battle against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the A-State Soccer Complex. Sunday’s kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and live streaming of the match can be seen with a paid subscription to the Red Wolves Digital Network.

This weekend’s matches will also officially usher in the Brian Dooley era in A-State women’s soccer history. Dooley was named the program’s fifth all-time head coach on Jan. 12 and has worked tirelessly through the winter and summer months to hire a coaching staff, put together a signing class and work to bring the A-State players into top physical shape in preparation for the 2015 season.

The Red Wolves welcome back their top-three goal scorers from a season ago, including senior Loren Mitchell, who ranks second on the A-State career goals scored and points totaled lists. Junior Ava Abner, who led the team in goals and points in 2014, also returns while senior Jenna Duerst rounds out a solid group of scoring threats that return.

Senior Jordan Adams and redshirt junior Mykel Ward will patrol the defensive backline for the Red Wolves, whom have been among one of the leagues toughest to score against over the last three seasons. Adams, who was also awarded the captain’s armband, is A-State’s most experienced returner with 56 games played to her credit.

A fierce battle has developed in fall camp for the goalkeeping job. Senior incumbent Amanda Lee had a strong spring, but has been challenged by sophomore Alexis Philippe and freshman Kelsey Ponder. All three saw time in net during A-State’s exhibition match at Missouri State.

Friday’s game at Southern Miss is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and free live stats will be available at AStateRedWolves.com. Sunday’s home match will have free live stats available at AStateStats.com.
