Sobriety check point leads to drug arrest

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A sobriety check point leads to a drug arrest in Jonesboro.

According to a Jonesboro Police report, 2 arrests were made at the intersection of Main street and Johnson Avenue Saturday morning around 1:45 a.m.

The police report states an officer asked the driver, Danny Kemp, for his driver's license and Kemp told police it was suspended.

The officer asked Kemp to pull to the side of the road. Officers then ran the license of Kemp and the passenger through dispatch.

Dispatch advised Jonesboro Police Kemp has a suspended license and is on parole, while the passenger was on felony probation.

The police report states Kemp gave the officer permission to search the vehicle, and officers found 2 plastic baggies that contained suspected methamphetamines.

Kemp and the passenger were taken into custody and transported to the Craighead County Sheriff's Detention Center.

The report states Kemp was left in custody awaiting a probable cause hearing for driving while license cancelled, suspended, or revoked, and possession of meth or cocaine.

The passenger was left with a cash bond of $3,573.45.
