LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality says that ten lakes and parts of 34 streams are so polluted that they don't meet federal water-quality standards.
The list includes 1,010 miles of streams in 59 segments, as well as 5,530 acres of lake surface. The department is to release a report on the pollution this week.
Each waterway on the list goes on probation for 13 years. During that time, the state must show that it is working toward improving the water quality of the listed lakes and streams.
Northeast Arkansas lakes on the list include Horseshoe in Crittenden County, Frierson in Greene County and Mallard in Mississippi County. Northeast Arkansas stream segments on the list include Bayou DeView, Norfork River, Strawberry River and the Lower Strawberry River.
