Grass clippings clog storm drains

KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - Grass clippings have been clogging storm drains in Kennett.

City code enforcement officer Victor Mode said when it rains even a little these clippings wash into the storm drains.

He said clogging the drains is not the only issue it causes.

"It will sit there and mildew and rot and it causes poor water quality for any of the streams the water runs into," Mode said.

The city of Kennett currently has an ordinance in place to stop people from blowing grass clippings into the street.

Mode said he tries to make sure people follow the ordinance or at least sweep up the clipping before it rains, but he said he ultimately can't catch everyone.
