Groundbreaking ceremony held for Newport business expansion

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) - A large crowd gathered at the Delta Manufacturing facility in Newport Wednesday to celebrate a new venture.

Delta Manufacturing makes a vast number of trailers including horse and livestock trailers along with flatbeds.

The company ships all over the country including Canada and Australia.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday to celebrate the addition of 40,000 square feet to the current building.

Vice President of Delta Manufacturing Les Eaves said this company has been a family affair since the very beginning

"My dad started with $200 and a borrowed welder to get to this point," Eaves said. "I just think it's a big deal for Newport, big deal for our industry included. So, Newport has had its fair share of bad luck so we are proud to be here and proud to be adding these jobs."

Eaves said the community support has been a huge help in growing their company.

"I can't even describe the number of folks that have shown up just for this kind of minor deal maybe, groundbreaking," Eaves said. "The support from the community has been unbelievable. Jon Chadwell with the Newport Economic Development has bent over backwards to help us get this done, so we sure appreciate him."

The expansion will add 35 jobs and will aid in making Delta a more efficient work place while reducing waste.

Eaves said they hope to have the construction done in the next 3 to 6 months and the jobs filled in the next year or 2.
