Jonesboro Animal Control lowers adoption price for National Dog Day

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Wednesday was National Dog Day and the Jonesboro Police Department’s Animal Control decided to help the community celebrate.

They have lowered the cost of adopting by $20 for the rest of the week.

Animal Control Officer Mike Owens said the number of dogs that need a good home is huge.

“On a daily basis, we’re averaging maybe 3 to 4 dogs a day; we adopt maybe 3 or 4 dogs a week,” Owens said. “So, you can tell our adoption rate and bringing in the dogs is way out of calculation.”

This lower adoption cost include spay, neutering and rabies shots.

“We haven’t gotten any dogs that are mean or anything like that,” Owens said. “Every one of them is just friendly. All they’re wanting is somebody to love.”

There are currently 130 dogs at Animal Control waiting for adoption.
