SALEM, AR (KAIT) - In 2014 Salem missed the playoffs for the first in four years. The Greyhounds lost two close games late in the season that cost them a playoff spot. This year Salem wants to make it back in the playoffs. "We look to hopefully make it there. But we're going to focus on each game at a time." Alex Martin, Salem senior right guard and defensive tackle said.
Salem will return 17 starters from last year which has given the team confidence and depth. "We have a lot of size, a lot of depth. Last year we graduated I think two starting seniors we got everybody back we're going to have a real good team this year," Brent Haskins, Salem senior wide receiver and safety said. "We have more depth, have more guys not going two ways and have some rest time for some guys and be able to have guys out there more at 100 percent than we have maybe in years past," Cody Curtis, Salem's head coach said.
While the seniors will certainly be a key there is also a talented group of sophomores coming in lead by quarterback Harrison Henley. Coach Curtis stresses the sophomores will push the seniors for starting spots. "There will be sophomores on the field even though we have a lot of returning starters. We will have sophomores, we're going to have a sophomore at quarterback and he does a good job and we have some sophomores in other areas that are going to do a good job. We're looking forward to seeing what they can do and what they bring to the team," Curtis said.
Salem starts its season on September 4th at Mountain View.
