Jonesboro committee discusses new city salary survey

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A committee appointed by Mayor Harold Perrin held a meeting Thursday night to discuss a new salary survey with Jonesboro city employees.

The employees had an opportunity to speak and express their concerns about the survey.

Corporal John Shipman with the Jonesboro Police Department told Region 8 News some of the issues city employees are currently facing.

“You have some departments that the base pay is okay but the longevity is not,” Shipman said. “You have some that the base pay is not good. You have got, for instance in the police department, the base pay has been increased over the years but some of the other areas have not. You can actually have a new hire come in and he can ride the first night and he might be $200 or $300 within guy that is training him that has been here for 7 years.”

The problem many of those with JPD worry about is losing experienced officers to other departments.

The committee will soon take their findings in front of the Jonesboro City Council.
