Adoption event held by Arkansas Angels 4 Animals

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A number of animals in Jonesboro are in need of good homes.

Volunteers spent their Saturday helping to find special homes for abandoned animals.

Arkansas Angels 4 Animals held an adoption event at Vetcare Inc. in Jonesboro from 12 to 4 p.m.

Many people came in to check out the dogs and cats available, including several children who played with the animals.

Executive Director of Arkansas Angels 4 Animals Angie Heringer said when people come to an event like this they can't expect to just take the pet home.

It's a long process and for good reason.

“We actually find our dogs great homes,” Heringer. “So yes, we do home checks, vet checks, and personal reference checks. You know they do fill out a 5 or 6 page application. We do ask them a lot of questions.”

It's important for the family and dog to both be happy Heringer said.

Heringer said these animals are a mix of owner surrenders, puppy mills, and some found on the side of the road.

Even if you aren't interested in adopting, Heringer said they always need volunteers, and all you have to do is show up.

Heringer said they are planning new events to help teach people about their mission and how to volunteer.
