Child thanks the Junior Auxiliary of Jonesboro

Members with the Junior Auxiliary of Jonesboro were surprised when they received a very special thank you letter for their community work.

The Share and Wear program works with the nurses and counselors of the different school districts in Craighead County to help provide necessary clothing for the children in their school.

Junior Auxiliary member Kim Provost is on the Share and Wear Committee.

She said they were deeply moved when a thank you letter arrived from a child who benefited from the program.

“We had a child who we were able to help through our Share and Wear Program,” Provost said. “It was a thank you letter. And that’s always so appreciative and heartwarming. This child, it really did touch our hearts. It’s a letter that he wasn’t going to have any new shoes and we were able to provide that for him.”

And this isn’t the only example of how this program has made a difference.

“Just last week I was able to help a family of three who had a house fire,” Provost said. “These children are basically homeless right now. And just to be able to help, it’s amazing how much the need is there and we are so happy to help fill that need.”

The Share and Wear program isn’t all the Junior Auxiliary of Jonesboro does.

They actually have 12 different services they provide for the community.

“We have some wonderful projects,” Provost said. “One of them is Growing Healthy where we go in and work with area 6th graders and teach them about healthy living through pig heart and lung dissections. We have one called Kick Start Kindergarten where we go in and help students that are just beginning and might need just a little bit of extra help to get them on the road to a successful career.”

Provost said they need the community’s support to meet the need they see growing every day.

“We could not be here and offer this without the community,” Provost said. “Share and Wear has been blessed to meet the need in the community for a while. However, the need continues to grow. And with that we could always use donations of new coats, blue jeans, underwear. Things of that nature that all children need.”

The Junior Auxiliary of Jonesboro was started in 1952.
