Paragould steps up to replace books taken from Little Free Library

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) -

The word free was taken literally at a Little Free Library in Paragould Sunday night.

An eyewitness at Reynolds Park said he saw someone drive up to the Little Free Library and take all of the books.

The witness thought that seemed strange, so he followed the vehicle.

The witness told police he then saw the person throw all of the books out of the vehicle on the side of the road.

He posted about the incident on Facebook and less than 24 hours later the Little Free Library was restocked.

Pay it Forward Paragould helped put the libraries in area parks.

Dustin Rumsey with PIFP said he wants people to realize when all the books are taken, it's taking from a child.

“You're not taking from me, I can have this thing full in an hour or 2,” Rumsey said. “So you're taking from a kids imagination. They could have found a book they really enjoy that could have captured their imagination and changed a life, like a lot of books did mine.”

Rumsey said the restocking of the books just shows how great the people are in their community.

“Less than 10 hours it’s already full, so it’s a testament to the city of Paragould,” Rumsey said. “I think they saw what was going on and they remedied that issue.”

Rumsey said this isn't the first time one of the Little Free Libraries in Paragould have been damaged or vandalized.

He said they haven't decided if they will pursue legal action or not.
