WYNNE, AR (KAIT) -

A Wynne man faces rape charges after police say he impregnated a 10-year-old girl.

Wynne police arrested Justin Roshud Smith, 20, on Saturday, Aug. 29, on suspicion of rape and endangering the welfare of a minor.

His arrest came after police were notified that a 10-year-old girl being treated at a local hospital was found to be pregnant, according to a news release from Detective Mike Smith.

Following an investigation by Wynne police and the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division, officers arrested and charged Smith with 3 counts of rape and one count of first degree child endangerment.

Smith appeared in Cross County District Court on Monday, Aug. 31, where a judge set his bond at $500,000 and ordered him to appear in circuit court on Friday, Oct. 2, for plea and arraignment.

If found guilty of the rape charge, Smith could be sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison.
