New 5-year plan unveiled for Jonesboro economy

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A new strategic plan, unveiled Wednesday, hopes to make Jonesboro a better place to live and raise a family.

The Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce put a survey out earlier this year to ask residents what they'd like to see in their community.

With the results of the survey, they teamed up with Avalanche Consulting to make a strategic plan to better the city.

Joe Williams with the Jonesboro Economic Development Corporation said he is more than thrilled about the turn out for the survey.

“Over 1,800 of our citizens participated in this survey and told us what they want in this community going forward, and they are helping us cast that vision,” Williams said.

Amy Holloway is the president of Avalanche Consulting and said the results of the survey show Jonesboro is in great shape.

“But it could be stronger, that is what our focus was on elevating the availability of high paying jobs here and making sure all of the residents of Jonesboro has access to jobs and educational opportunities,” Holloway said.

Target industries for the plan include agribusiness, health care, logistics, manufacturing and professional services.

Within those divisions, there are subdivisions including chemical production, biomedical research, truck transportation, food processing and accounting.

Holloway said the last strategic plan was done 30 years ago, making it time to get a new 5-year plan in place.
