JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro man was arrested Wednesday for battery after he reportedly shot a man in the back over two weeks ago.
According to a Jonesboro police report, officers responded to a home on Greenmeadow Lane on Aug. 15 in reference to a man with a gunshot wound.
A man was found lying in the floor of a bedroom and bleeding profusely.
Officers gave him first aid until EMS arrived to take him to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A bullet was recovered from near the man's feet.
The victim's children told police that there had been a fight between him and another man.
The children's mother arrived on scene while officers were talking to them.
She told police that she and a man, later identified as Ruben Malone, 24, were at her house when the victim showed up unannounced.
She said the men began fighting but she was not in the same room as them when she heard a gunshot.
Malone reportedly came out of the bedroom, pointed a gun at her and said to take him home.
When asked if she thought she was kidnapped by Malone, the woman said "basically."
The woman said she took Malone to a house on West Jefferson Street.
When officers arrived on scene, Malone was not there.
A detective went to the hospital to talk to the victim, but he made it apparent he didn't want to talk about who shot him.
But he came to the police department on Aug. 28 and told Detective Lane Holmes that it was Malone who shot him that night.
A bench warrant was issued for Malone on Tuesday.
An officer arrested him on Wednesday on Union Street.
He was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center and charged with first degree battery and endangering the welfare of a minor.
He was left in custody awaiting a probable cause hearing Thursday.
