Plans for Paint the Town Red, the Red Mile Parade and Big Great A-State Tailgate announced

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Red Wolves fans have a new event to add to the growing list of activities leading up to Arkansas State University’s big game against the University of Missouri on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The Red Mile Parade will begin at St. Bernards Health and Wellness and end at the Big A-State Tailgate pep rally at Main and Huntington.

“Folks are encouraged to decorate up wagons and strollers and themselves,” Dawn Layer, chair of the A-State Committee for the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce said. “Coach Blake Anderson and the Sound of the Natural State Band will be there.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their bikes, wagons and walking shoes.

Businesses are encouraged to show their support of A-State by decorating their windows, lobbies and anywhere they would like to show Pack Pride.

Deadline to enter the Paint the Town Red Contest is Friday, Sept. 4.

There are special edition yard signs available that feature Howl’s pictures for $10. A limited number are available through the Chamber.

“I am very excited.  It’s just one of the most fun weeks that we have,” Layer said. “Everybody in this town really gets involved with it.  It’s just great!”

Students from Jonesboro’s Health, Wellness and Environmental Studies Magnet School will kick the week off with a balloon launch on Tuesday.

Paint The Town Red Decorating Contest will be judged on Wednesday.

The 19th annual Order of the Pack is planned for Thursday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. It’s the largest Pep Rally at A-State.

All Division 1 athletic teams will be introduced, the Sound of the Natural State will do their pre-game show and the Spirit Squads will perform.

The event that is free and open to the public at Centennial Bank Stadium will feature messages from Coach Blake Anderson, Dr. Rick Stripling, Chancellor Tim Hudson and Athletic Director Terry Mohajir.

The Big Great A-State Tailgate begins at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Jonesboro.

It will follow the Red Mile Parade.

Region 8 News plans to broadcast live from the event as part of the Region 8 Road Trip that night.

Food, vendors and live music from The Sound of the Natural State Band will make for a “howling” good time.
