A Better Region 8 - Perspectives of every police officer

It seems like it's happened to all of us at one time or another.  You look up in your rear-view mirror and see blue lights. You know that feeling when you realize, “this officer is pulling me over?”

Let's look at it from the police officer's perspective. The officer clocks a car going over the speed limit and has to do a traffic stop.  Although you know it's a police officer because of the marked car, blue lights and sirens, the officer has no idea who they're pulling over, the intentions of the driver and passengers, or how they'll react.

They have to proceed as though their life is in danger.

Now a days, that's magnified because of a disturbing trend going on in America today. People are murdering law enforcement officers, and one could argue that it’s because they wear a badge. There is a palpable distrust of law enforcement right now.

Well I'm here to tell you, that there are some bad apples in the law enforcement ranks, but there are some bad apples in every walk of life. Let's take a moment and realize that a vast majority of law enforcement officers are people like us, and we as a society would be in total chaos without them... even if we don't agree with them.

Let’s take a look at it from another perspective.

Greene County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call of a car submerged under water Wednesday. When they arrived, they found a 21-year-old woman trying to stay alive and saved her from drowning. She owes her life to those two deputies.

Two Osceola Police Officers risked their lives, when they fought their way into a burning mobile home and saved the life of the person inside.

Why? Because they represent the majority of law enforcement...they are the good ones. So let's keep it in perspective and realize that a great majority of our law enforcement officers are not the enemy.

They are here to do their job...to help…to protect and serve... and they make this A Better Region 8.
