Shops see more customers during Labor Day

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - For most people Labor Day means a day off work, but for some retail shops it means more business.

According to a survey by TripAdvisor, 41 percent of people planned to shop this Labor Day.

Many shops around the Region 8 area stayed open during the holiday and had deals to bring in customers.

A lot of customers, for one shop manager.

"Within an hour we had done tremendously well. We opened at 11 and we closed at 5 today and so I am really excited about what we have done so far today, it has actually surprised me," said Suzanne Johnston, store manager of Ima's in Paragould.

Johnston said it was not only Labor Day that benefited her business, but the whole weekend.

"Saturday was really great and actually we doubled what we sold last year. So, we are very excited about that," said Johnston.

Many retail shops used Labor Day weekend to get rid of their summer inventory. Shops marked down the summer products so there would be room for the new fall and winter inventories coming in.
