Police turn to public to find missing man

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) - The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is turning to the public in finding a man who has been missing since Saturday.

According to a post on the sheriff's office's Facebook page, Billy Edward McClendon, 59, of Newport was reported missing by his sister. His sister told investigators that he was last seen wearing khaki pants and a white checkered shirt.

Police told Region 8 News that they are searching nearby areas in attempts to find McClendon. Lieutenant Ricky Morales with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department explained what they were doing.

"Right now we are searching the area," Morales said. "We've contacted the phone provider trying to get phone calls, text messages. Anything with some data that we can use if he had a phone with him. See the last person he might have talked to or tried calling him."

Morales said this behavior was not typical with McClendon and he does not have a history with mental illness. He does have health issues and left his medication at home.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at 870-523-5842.
