POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) -

Some Region 8 first graders are getting a head start on going digital thanks to a lawmaker's largesse.

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill chose Lake Road Elementary School in Poplar Bluff to receive 5 used computers as part of the Computers for Schools program.

On Friday, Sept. 4, workers installed the HP Compaq devices in the classrooms, according to a news release from the school district.

School officials say the computers will be used for “differentiated instruction during group exercises.”

“This year we’ve been able to add computers in our classrooms with Title I funding so second and third graders can have access to online instructional resources,” said Principal Erica Weadon. “This generous donation will help us expand our efforts to reach more first graders as well.”

Lake Road was the only school in Southeast Missouri selected to receive the computers under the national yearly program.
