JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro traffic stop led to the arrest of two people for possession of drugs Tuesday afternoon.
According to a police report, a silver Jeep Liberty with expired tags was stopped after making two traffic violations in the heavy traffic area of Red Wolf Boulevard and East Highland Drive.
After finishing a warning citation for the expired tags Officer Jason Bissett asked the driver of the Jeep, Timothy Hewitt, 42, of Weiner if he had anything illegal in the vehicle.
Hewitt said no. That's when Officer Bissett asked the passenger of the vehicle, April Williams, 35, of Jonesboro if she had her ID on her as well.
The report states that Williams began acting nervous and argumentative, so Officer Bissett had Hewitt step outside the vehicle to discuss the warning citation while Officer Gary Jackson spoke with the passenger.
Bissett then asked Hewitt if he had anything illegal in his pockets.
After Hewitt gave the officer consent to search him, the officer found a small plastic bag with clear crystals that he suspected was methamphetamine.
Hewitt was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance.
Meanwhile, another officer asked Williams to exit the vehicle.
The report says she put her hands in her pockets and turned away.
A female officer was brought over to conduct a body search on Williams.
A small pill box containing several pills was found inside her pocket along with a small plastic bag with clear, white crystals inside, which also appear to be methamphetamine.
Williams was placed under arrest while the officers conducted a vehicle search. They found 2 pipes near the passenger side seat.
Williams was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She also had warrants out for her arrest for nonpayments of fines.
