Main Street Batesville sees growth in business

BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

Main Street Batesville is seeing a lot of growth with the opening of seven business in the past two months.

Main Street Executive Director Joel Williams said the city is working to make Main Street more family friendly.

Main Street is adding more parking, greenery and entertainment to attract people to the area.

Williams said the normal 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. businesses are great, but downtown always needs a variety.

"We have our businesses that handle through the day, that's good that's exactly what we need, but we also need the restaurants and the different types of businesses that can handle the night life too." Williams said. "That's how you grow."

Downtown now has a variety of businesses including art studios, salons, clothing stores, theaters and many restaurants.

Williams said he is happy with the growth but there is still more work to be done in restoring several buildings and opening more stores.
