In July of 2014, A Better Region 8 focused on this weekend's A-State home opener with ranked SEC opponent Mizzou.
The St. Louis Sports Commission asked A-State to move its home game with Mizzou to the city's Edward Jones Dome. Red Wolves athletic director Terry Mohajir said the commission offered his school a "significant" amount of money to relocate the game from Jonesboro to St. Louis.
The decision was made to leave the game here in Jonesboro and when that happened everybody cheered! Playing the game here means the university still makes revenue, local restaurants, hotels and businesses all benefit from such a big home game. Arkansas State fans are awesome… they support the university by purchasing tickets with their hard earned money.
But ticket sales are slow. There are thousands of unsold tickets to what many are calling the biggest game in A-State's history.
I know that general admission tickets are more expensive to this game than for games later in the season…and we've received feedback from our viewers saying tickets are just too expensive.
The SEC is coming to our stadium to play and that is a big deal. Right now – a record 10 SEC schools are ranked in the top 25…including Mizzou. A-State did the right thing to keep the game here, now we as a community have to stand up, buy the remaining tickets and support them. It's the right thing to do.
Going to this week's game and supporting the Red Wolves will help A-State, our local economy, and make this A Better Region 8.
