JONESBORO, AR (astateredwolves.com) – Louisiana Tech scored three unanswered goals to come away with a 3-1 victory over the Red Wolves in a non-conference soccer battle Sunday afternoon at the A-State Soccer Park.
A-State struck first on the second goal of the season by senior Jordan Adams, but the Lady Techsters tied the game minutes before the half and added two more goals in the second half to drop Arkansas State's record to 2-6 on the year. La Tech improved to 5-3 with the win.
Adams' goal came in the 21st minute off a flip throw by freshman Kassie Flynn, who is now tied for the team lead in assists with four. Flynn's throw was perfectly placed inside the box and deflected off Katherine Padgett and on to the waiting header of Adams who flicked it into the net for an early 1-0 advantage.
The Red Wolves controlled much of the pace in the first half and dominated possession in the attacking front, but Louisiana Tech was able to flip the field in the second half and put the pressure on the A-State defense.
La Tech scored the equalizer in the 43rd on a goal by Anne Armstrong in front of the net, and took the lead on Donya Salomon-Ali's header in the 60th minute. Kathryn Sloan made it a two-goal lead with a goal in the 78th minute.
Sophomore Alexis Phillipe made six saves in net, while Adams finished with two shots both of which were on target. Amy Andrea also added a shot on goal, while Arianna Delli Carpini, Flynn and Loren Mitchell all had shots on goal.
Arkansas State will take to the road for its final non-conference game of the season on Friday, Sept. 18 against Southeast Missouri State. Kickoff in Capre Girardeau, Mo., is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
