PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Four men with the Greene County Sheriff's Department received the "hero award" Monday after they saved a woman who was trapped in an overturned vehicle.
The vehicle was overturned in a pond off of County Road 514 earlier this month.
The honorees include Deputies Ethan McGinnis, Jimmy Huffstetler, Matt Ring and Sergeant Tommy Huffstetler.
Sergeant Huffstetler said his crew's immediate reaction was to quickly get into the vehicle to find out if there was anybody inside of it.
"We were trying to see if we could feel anybody underneath the water," Huffstetler said. "Mainly checked the front seats because usually people are buckled up in their car and that's where they would be at."
The men didn't find the woman in the front area of the vehicle but they did locate her in the back and pulled her out onto the bank.
Huffstetler said the woman appeared to be calm after the rescue.
When asked how receiving the award made him feel, he said it wasn't a big deal.
"It makes us feel good that people recognize it but we were just doing what we were supposed to do," said Huffstetler.
