Manila voters pass millage increase for new school

MANILA, AR (KAIT) - Manila residents say it is time to build a new high school for their children.

Voters Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a millage increase to fund construction of a new school.

The early numbers indicate the measure passed 435 to 198, according to Manila School Superintendent Pam Castor.

The new school, which will be located at what is now the bus shed near the middle school, will replace the current building, which was built in the 1950s.

The Arkansas Department of Education has agreed to pay $14 million of the construction. The millage increase will help pay the rest of the bill.
