JPD boosts neighborhood patrols after 'several' reports of gunshots

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Police have beefed up patrols in one Jonesboro neighborhood following several reports of shots fired.

Around 4 a.m. Wednesday a woman reported hearing 2 gunshots in the 4500-block of East Highland.

The woman reportedly told the responding officer she did not see where the shots came from, but showed him a shell casing in the parking lot.

According to the initial incident report, the casing appeared to be from a 9 millimeter gun.

The woman also told the officer a neighbor’s car had been shot but that the victim had already gone to work.

The officer then traveled to the victim’s place of business where he found a bullet hole in driver’s side rear door of her car.

The officer searched the car’s interior but was unable to find the bullet.

The victim told the officer the damage had been done Sunday sometime between 2 and 3 p.m. when she heard “several gunshots.”

The officer requested extra patrol for the neighborhood after the women said there had been “several instances of gunshots in the area recently.”
