CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KAIT) - A piece of military material was found in a Caruthersville house after a fire.
The Caruthersville Fire Department responded to a fire on Franklin Avenue around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday.
After the fire was put out, firemen went into the house.
According to a news release from the city, the firemen noticed a foreign device believed to be a piece of military ordinance in one of the bedrooms.
The house was cleared and the Caruthersville Police Department secured the scene until the bomb squad from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety could respond.
The U.S. military was contacted to come to the scene and dispose of the object.
It's not known right now if the object is a live piece of ammunition or a dud.
The area is secured at this time.
