Teen arrested after bringing gun to school

CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KAIT) -

Caruthersville police arrested a teen Friday after they say he brought a gun to school.

Around 8:08 a.m. officers responded to a fight between two students at Caruthersville High School.

School staff told police they had found a black handgun inside one of the students’ backpack.

Upon further inspection, officers identified the weapon as an Air Soft BB gun, according to a news release from City Marshal Tony Jones.

He said one of the students sent a SnapChat video to the other. In it, the teen waved a pistol and threatened to beat the other student at a local apartment complex.

It is believed the BB gun is the same pistol used in the video, Jones said.

The student who brought the gun to school was taken to the juvenile detention facility in Charleston, MO, to await an appearance before the Pemiscot County Division III Circuit Court.
