Community "Backs The Blue" in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - This week at the Northeast Arkansas District Fair you can ride the carnival rides and back the blue.

All week at the fair, one booth will be selling T-shirts and other items that show support for officers called "Back the Blue."

Jonesboro Police Officer John Shipman came up with the concept.

The original idea was to raise money for a pair of folks at JPD who are suffering through some health issues. But Shipman said that's only half of it.

"It's to help them out, but I also know that this is a community that shows me every day they love their police department," Shipman said. "They are always willing to step out and help us. So I came up with this idea to make a t-shirt to show support for the police department."

They are also selling bumper stickers and license plates in addition to the t-shirts.

The proceeds aren't just going to police officers. A local arson victim was recently helped by Back the Blue proceeds as well.
