Leachville man accused of throwing woman out of car

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Police arrested a Leachville man they say ran over his pregnant wife on a bank parking lot.

On Tuesday, Jonesboro police were called to the intersection of Stadium and Highland about a woman screaming in the middle of the road.

According to the initial incident report, 36-year-old Michael Ballard got into a heated confrontation with his estranged wife at Walmart, 1815 E. Highland, while trying to resolve existing relationship issues.

After leaving the store, police say the argument escalated.

That's when Ballard pulled the vehicle over at Centennial Bank, 2901 E. Highland, and hit his wife in the head and face, the report stated.

When the victim tried to escape the vehicle, police say Ballard pulled her back into the car through the passenger side, then threw her out of the driver's side door.

He then proceeded to run over his wife while she was lying on the concrete, the report stated.

The victim said she tried to get up to stop Ballard, but he drove off with their two children in the car.

The report stated that the victim had obvious injuries. The victim told police she was 7 months pregnant.

A sheriff's deputy later arrested Ballard in Monette and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center where he was charged with second- and third-degree domestic battery.
