JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Jonesboro Pre-K Center's new location is inching along to completion.
The center recently received a grant that allowed 100 more kids to enter Pre-K.
The grant didn't allow them to build a facility though. It only allowed them to lease the building.
Phillips Construction agreed to step in and build the school for Jonesboro Pre-K North on East Johnson Avenue.
The walls are going up and the center hopes students will be in the facility by January.
Director Diane Roush said the additional location gives kids a window of opportunity to learn. If missed, they may never get that opportunity back.
"When a child attends a high quality pre-K, their vocabulary increases, and they gain skills," Roush said. "We've done some brain research with Arkansas State University and 3 through 5 is a crucial time for a child."
In the meantime, Roush is looking for ways to fund the additional space after the 4-year grant expires.
