A West Memphis East Junior High football player airlifted from the field at Cooksey-Johns Field in Jonesboro Thursday night walked out of the hospital hours after his injury.
According to West Memphis Athletic Director Lanny Dauksch, the player sustained a head/neck injury and was flown from the field to Memphis for precautionary reasons. Dauksch said the player had signs of movement in his arms and legs prior to being transported. The player walked out of the hospital at 11 p.m. Thursday with his family, Dauksch said.
Dauksch told Region 8 News that the student sustained "no serious damage" and will see his family doctor for follow-up visits.
On Friday morning, the Jonesboro athletic director said emergency personnel responded to the situation quickly.
The game was canceled following the injury and will likely not be made up, Dauksch said.
