CROSS COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

A man wanted for attempted murder and rape is now back in police custody after being released by mistake.

Cross County Sheriff J.R. Smith said in a news release Willie J. Ross, 53, of Helena was arrested without incident by the West Helena Police Department around 8 a.m. Friday.

Smith said an inmate with the last name of Ross was ordered to be release by a judge on Monday. The jail administrator mistakenly released Willie Ross.

Disciplinary action is possible against the jail administrator and/or the jailer, according to Smith. The sheriff said Ross will not face additional charges.

Ross is on his way back to the Cross County Jail, Smith said.

Ross was wanted on suspicion of rape, attempted murder and domestic battery.
