Scavenger hunt promotes local economy in Region 8 town

TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) - The city of Trumann is hosting a wild duck scavenger hunt to help businesses and the community.

Ten businesses have helped sponsor the event that aims to promote the local economy.

A metal duck head has been hidden in the town and clues to where it can be found are released weekly.

Participants have to buy a hunting license at the municipal building.

The prize includes 1,000 "duck bucks" that can only be spent at Trumann chamber businesses.

Director of Economic Development Neal Vickers said participants are on the move daily.

"I went down to the fire department earlier today and I took them raffle tickets for the duck festival," Vickers said. "One of the firemen pulled me aside and he had a map and he said 'Where's this duck?' and I said it's out there somewhere."

Vickers said this is a way to help keep tax dollars in Trumann and help the citizens.

Clue 11 was released Friday.

Vickers believes the event is gaining a lot of momentum, which he is proud of.
