Jonesboro man cited after neighbor finds dead dog

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A woman found her neighbor's dog dead after she went to feed the animals.

According to a Jonesboro police report, the woman went to her neighbor's house Friday to feed the dogs because sometimes she worries they aren't fed.

When she got there she found a puppy dead, bloated and swarmed by flies.

When police arrived to the 2300 block of Mitzi, they found a dead puppy along with 2 adult boxers and another puppy alive in the backyard.

At 2 p.m. the dog owner returned home. He told the officer the dead puppy was his.

The backyard the dogs were left in had no food or shelter, and the yard was in very poor condition.

According to the report, the dog owner told police the dead puppy was one of 7 puppies he originally had. Three of the puppies were adopted, 2 died, and 1 was missing.

When asked how the other 2 puppies died, he said he was unsure.

The man was cited with state cruelty.

He was also cited with no state rabies because he couldn't provide proof of rabies vaccinations for the 2 boxers he owned.
