MANILA, AR (KAIT) - Workers at Manila Head Start never would have guessed a balloon they released would travel to Europe.
Leona Tate asked her co-workers to come up with a fun way to celebrate the 50th year anniversary.
Tara McClain and Alice Thrasher decided to release balloons on the anniversary. For fun, they attached cards to the balloons asking whoever found one to email the head start center.
A few months went by and in August the workers were shocked to hear where one balloon ended up.
"We had about given up because we released these balloons on April 17 and we got an email like Aug. 2 that said I found your balloon from a woman named Marie Louie from Vaureal, France," McClain said.
Louie said her son found the balloon around their dog's chain and saw the card attached.
The balloon, which was one of 100 released that day, ended up traveling 4,490 miles.
As for the others, McClain said many probably ended up in trees.
