JPD: shooting incident was first time officer fired weapon

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Region 8 News has received new information on the Jonesboro police officer who shot a suspect Saturday night.

Through a Freedom of Information request, Region 8 News was told Saturday night's incident was the first time Officer Brian Arnold had ever fired his service weapon on duty.

We also asked for Arnold's records concerning commendations or disciplinary actions, but were told those were not available under the conditions of this case.

According to police, officer Arnold was responding to a domestic disturbance when he shot 33-year-old Clifton Puckett.

The report states Puckett was arguing with his wife over a shotgun.

Puckett eventually pulled the gun away from his wife.

That's when the report says Officer Arnold told him several times to put the weapon down. When he refused, Arnold shot him.

Arnold is currently on paid administrative leave. There is no update on the Puckett's condition.
