BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A Baxter County man was arrested Saturday after shooting a gun while intoxicated.
Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 7100-block of Highway 126 North around 6 p.m. Saturday for an intoxicated man firing a gun.
When he arrived, the deputy found Vernon Carl Henson, 47, standing in the road in front of his house.
At first Henson denied having a gun, but later told the deputy that a handgun was in his left, front pants pocket.
The gun was an Armi Tanfoglilo Giuseppe Model GT 38C, which was loaded and had a round in the chamber.
Henson later admitted to the deputy that he had shot the gun twice.
But neighbors told the deputy that the handgun had been discharged several times during the day while children were present.
Henson is also a convicted felon and therefore prohibited by law from possessing a firearm.
He was arrested and taken to the Baxter County Detention Center where he was charged with a felony for possession of a firearm by certain persons and misdemeanors for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
He is being held in lieu of a $15,000 bond. He is expected in circuit court on Oct. 1.
