JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Two local schools are among those to receive a special reward in Arkansas.
Valley View Junior High School in Jonesboro and Mount Pleasant Elementary School in Mount Pleasant are two of five schools named 2015 National Blue Ribbon Schools.
U.S. Senator John Boozman announced the school names Tuesday in a news release and offered his congratulations.
"National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students either achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap," the release stated.
The other three schools in Arkansas include Park Magnet School in Hot Springs, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School in Rogers and Vandergriff Elementary School in Fayetteville.
The five Arkansas schools are among 335 public and private schools to receive the award.
