A-State student reports attempted robbery on campus

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Police arrested 2 people accused of trying to rob an Arkansas State University student early Tuesday morning.

The victim told officers with the University Police Department he was sitting in his car near Building 2 of the North Park Quads when the suspects tried to steal his cell phone, according to a news release from the university.

One of the suspects reportedly attempted to punch the student.

Officers immediately checked the area and located 2 suspects, ages 16 and 19, whom the victim positively identified, the police report stated.

UPD arrested 19-year-old Eiichi Jumwanna Moore of Jonesboro on suspicion of robbery and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center, according to the initial incident report.

They also arrested the 16-year-old suspect, who was not identified due to his age, on the same charges. He was taken to the Craighead County Juvenile Detention Center.

According to the university, campus police had arrested one of the suspects before in June.

  • Always report suspicious activity to the University Police Department by calling 870-972-2093, or by using an emergency blue light phone, or by using Quiktip
  • Always be aware of your surroundings
  • Walk with others at night and in well-lit areas.
  • Utilize the Student Patrol escort service when going to other locations on campus.
