JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A-State students are working to feed those in need in their community.
An open house was held Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the opening of the A-State Campus Food Pantry.
Volunteer A-State and the Student Government Association joined forces in February.
Since then, they've worked to create the food pantry for A-State students, faculty and staff.
"They started really researching what's happening at UCA and University of Arkansas and UAPD and seeing how many people were taking advantage of this service," Student Services Coordinator for A-State Katey Provence said. "And so we think it's a need we can't necessarily see yet, but we'll be able to see once we're open and operating."
Provence said they've collected 3,600 pounds of food so far.
The pantry will be open on Mondays and Thursdays.
