JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team is ranked second in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Preseason Poll as announced by the NTCA Thursday afternoon.
The Red Wolves received 865 points and tallied five first-place votes to finish second in the poll behind the defending national champion, Nebraska. The Cornhuskers accumulated 941 points in the poll and registered 17 first-place votes. Stephen F. Austin (844 points), Fairleigh Dickinson (827 points), and Vanderbilt (757 points) rounded out the top five.
A-State finished last season ranked fourth in the final NTCA Poll after finishing in a tie for fifth place at the NCAA Tournament. The Red Wolves concluded the 2014-15 season with a 76-34 and finished no lower than sixth in any tournament they competed in. The No. 2 ranking in the Preseason NTCA Poll ties for the highest spot the team has received after also being ranked second before the 2012-13 and 2014-15 seasons.
Head coach Justin Kostick is in his seventh season leading the Red Wolves' women's bowling program and has led the team to a 493-201 (.710) mark during his tenure. Arkansas State returns six letterwinners from last season's squad to go along with two players that redshirted a season ago and four newcomers.
