Authorities Investigate Fatal Stabbing in Cross County

March 01, 2005 -- Posted at 10:30 p.m. CST

Parkin, AR -- It's business as usual at the Friendly Market in the small town of Parkin.

"All the people, everybody around comes and shops at the Friendly Market. Nothing like this ever happens--it's the only grocery store in Parkin anyway," Tonjural Clark.

Tonjural Clark lives in Parkin.

Tuesday morning started out anything but typical.

"This is going to be the talk of the town for a while," said Felicia Williams.

Felicia Williams also lives in Parkin.

Police say a fight in the parking lot between Ken Slaughter and Robert Sanders ended with Slaughter dead.

"They had beef with one another--they was into it," said Clark.

Police arrested Robert Sanders and expect to charge him with first degree murder.

"These folks in Parkin believe the streets before they believe anything else. That will get a person killed around here. Believing what other folks tell you, that will get a person killed," said Williams.

In what residents call a quiet town, news of a murder is hard to believe.

Residents hope this murder doesn't spark a series of criminal activity.
