Butterfly release to memorialize and celebrate loved ones

The 8th annual St. Bernards Advocates Butterfly Release will take place in the east parking lot at the St. Bernard’s Imaging Center, 1144 East Matthews Avenue on Sunday, October 4 at 2 p.m.

Activities will be held near the water features at the side of the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

“We will have music from the Visual and Performing Arts Chorale. They had a group last year and it was wonderful,” Brandon Stevens, one of the event organizers, said. “There will be a time of testimony from a family at the Hospice House. Of course, the focus is all the release of all those butterflies.”

The event is designed as a day of celebration and remembrance.

Activities will include music, arts and crafts for children and refreshments.

In addition, a butterfly-themed custom painting from Painting by Hailey will be sold at a silent auction.

“This is open to the public," Stevens said. "We have a huge crowd. There will also be some crafts for kids.”

The highlight of the program is the release of 600 Monarch butterflies.

The butterfly release is sponsored by the St. Bernards Advocates, with proceeds benefiting the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

The facility is the only residential care facility for hospice patients in Northeast Arkansas.
