Eight students injured in Heber Springs bus crash

HEBER SPRINGS, AR (KAIT) -

The Heber Springs High School football team was involved in a bus crash early Saturday morning.

Arkansas State Police Troopers were called out to the scene of the one vehicle crash that involved a Heber Springs school bus at around 12:40 a.m.

Darren Gowen was driving the bus on Highway 5, north of Rosebud, when it ran off the road after hitting a deer.

The bus was returning to Heber Springs from Stuttgart.

Gowen was not injured, but eight students were taken to area hospitals in Heber Springs and Searcy.

One of the students was later airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

None of the injuries were initially reported to be life threatening.
