From the tragic death of a child comes hope and help for those in need.
Earlier this month, 12-year-old Ross Curtner was killed at the Crowley's Ridge Raceway. An organization called Pay it Forward Paragould has a new project called "The Buddy Bench", and they dedicated their first one in honor of Ross Curtner.
A Buddy Bench is designed to offer a safe place for kids who may be new to school or don't have anyone to play with. The idea is if another kid sees someone sitting at the bench, they know to go over to the bench and include them.
Greene County Tech Junior High 8th grader Jenna Boling designed the first Buddy Bench. She said that even though she didn't know Curtner, she tried to capture the things he liked.
What a great way to honor Ross Curtner, to keep his memory alive, to give him a legacy, and help others at the same time. Great job to Jenna Boling and to the folks at Pay it Forward Paragould for the Buddy Bench project. They plan to build between 25 and 30 benches for area schools and parks.

Honoring Ross Curtner and making sure his memory lives on, while helping our children, makes this A Better Region 8.
