JONESBORO, AR (astateredwolves.com) – Arkansas State senior running back Michael Gordon has been the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week after a career-best rushing performance against Idaho this past Saturday.

Gordon, an Interdisciplinary Studies major, rushed for a career-high 221 yards and three-touchdowns to help the Red Wolves to a 49-35 victory over the Vandals. His 221 rushing yards were the second most by a Sun Belt Conference player this season and the 11th most in the nation thus far. It was also the second most rushing yards ever by an A-State player at Centennial Bank Stadium. Gordon ran the ball a career-high 26 times and averaged 8.5 yard per attempt and recorded three or more rushing touchdowns in a game for the fifth time in his career.

His performance included a season-long 59-yard run, the longest of any A-State player this year. He finished the night with two rushes of over 40 yards, giving him 12 for his career. Gordon’s 28 career rushing touchdowns rank as the fifth most in school history and he became the eighth player in school history to have at least 10 games of 100 or more rushing yards. He also ranks ninth on the all-time Arkansas State rushing list with 2,354 yards.

The Red Wolves return to the field Tuesday, Oct. 13 for a nationally televised ESPN2 broadcast against South Alabama at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
