POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 hospital on its financial deathbed nearly 8 years ago now appears to be on the mend.
Arkansas Business reports Five Rivers Medical Center in Pocahontas is "finally paying down outstanding debts" and reports improved financial health.
CEO Luther Lewis credits increased insurance revenue combined with ruthless expense control for the upturn.
He also slashed several programs, including an outpatient psychiatric program which "was losing $25,000 a month," according to Lewis.
"By and large, we're over the hump," Lewis told the magazine. "But, we've got to keep focusing on new opportunities that this hospital can provide to the citizens of this area.
