JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Craighead County district judge found probable cause Wednesday to charge a man accused of hitting and kicking a pregnant woman.
Demario Cannon, 29, of Little Rock is charged with third degree domestic battery, a Class D felony.
According to court documents, Cannon assaulted the pregnant mother of his child Tuesday night at an apartment in the 1900-block of North Culberhouse.
The victim told police Cannon had not come home the night before. When he came home Tuesday, she reportedly went to her bedroom to avoid a confrontation.
"She advised that Cannon then started beating on her door and then forced his way in the bedroom," the affidavit stated.
As she tried to get by him, Cannon "grabbed the back of her hair" and struck her in the face, causing her to fall to the ground, the court document said.
While she was on the ground, the victim told investigators Cannon "started kicking her and hitting her."
The woman told police "all she could think about was protecting her face and stomach from the blows, due to her being 14 weeks pregnant."
Cannon appeared in district court Wednesday, where District Judge Keith Blackman set his bond at $2,500 and ordered him to appear in circuit court on Nov. 30.
