Haven House Family Shelter paints the county purple with ribbons

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

The Mississippi County Haven House Family Shelter is promoting awareness of domestic violence.

The Haven House is passing out ribbons to the county courthouses, police departments and several businesses

“We will go through Main Street here in Blytheville and other surrounding areas and present ribbons, and the purple ribbons we present are just a quiet symbol,” said Phyllis McClendon, executive director.

The shelter is also hosting a 5k run/walk on Oct. 17.

One in three women and one in four men will face domestic violence through physical, emotional or financial abuse.

The shelter reminds people the problem is all too common and that there is help.

McClendon said if someone is facing domestic violence he or she should find a safe escape, contact the police and then have the police contact the shelter.

The shelter is in an undisclosed location to ensure victims' safety.

McClendon said the shelter is always looking for donations as well.
